It also exhibits <a href="http://varanasitourism.com/tag/rajasthani-paintings" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with rajasthani paintings">Rajasthani paintings</a>, Pichhawai’s, pahari painting, Nepalese &#038; Tibetan Thankas, Company paintings as well as paintings of contemporary artists, illustrated Mrigavati, Kalpa Sutra, Chora-Panchasika, Laura-Chanda, Shah-nama and some pages of Humza<br />
-nama. Exquisite sculptures and bronzes can also be seen here.<br />
There is a gallery dedicated to <a href="http://varanasitourism.com/tag/varanasi" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Varanasi">Varanasi</a> city, a nineteenth century map shows the recent Raj Ghat excavations and old etchings of the city. Along with Buddhist and Hindu sculpture and Moghul glass, galleries are devoted to foreign artists who found inspiration in India, such as <a href="http://varanasitourism.com/tag/nicholas-roerich" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Nicholas Roerich">Nicholas Roerich</a> and Alice Boner. Jamini Roy, the Bengali rehaissance painter is also well represented.</p>

BHU was founded in 1916 by <a href="http://varanasitourism.com/tag/pandit-madan-mohan-malviya" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya">Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya</a> and under the Parliamentary legislation, &#8216;B.H.U. Act 1915.</p>
<p>The campus spread over 1350 acre (5.5 km²) campus was built on land donated by then Kashi Naresh.Besides, it has its Rajiv Gandhi South Campus on a bigger land 2,760-acre (11.2 km<sup>2</sup>) at Barkatcha near the city of Mirzapur , about 80 kilometers from the main campus. It has 140 teaching departments and more than 55 hostels for boys and girls. The total enrollment in the University stands at just over 15000, including students from all over India and abroad. Several of its colleges, including engineering (IT-BHU), science, linguistics, journalism &amp; mass communication, law and medicine (IMS-BHU), Faculty of Management Studies, are ranked amongst the best in India, out of these IT-BHU is set to become India&#8217;s 16th IIT, IIT-BHU from the academic session 2010. Among others the University is well know for it&#8217;s Department of French studies which offers various degree and diploma cources attracting students from across India. BHU is ranked as the second best university in the field of research in India after Delhi University. It is also the best university of India on all parameters as per the India Today magazine dated 2nd June 201o.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">Sanskrit is the most ancient and perfect among the languages of the world. Its storehouse of knowledge is an unsurpassed and the most invaluable treasure of the world. This language is a symbol of the peculiar India tradition and thought, which has exhibited full freedom in the search of truth, has shown complete tolerance towards spiritual and other king of experiences of mankind, and has shown catholicity towards universal truth. This language contains not a rich fund of knowledge its international significance and to keep intact traditional scholarship and to strike a compromise between India and western outlooks and to conduct research and study the various aspects of culture and spiritual literature.</p>
<p>The Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya (university) was founded on 22 March 1958 by the then Chief Minister Dr. Sampurnanand and Education Minister Pt. Kamalapati Tripathi, with the name of `<a href="http://varanasitourism.com/tag/varanaseya-sanskrit-vishwavidyalaya" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya">Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya</a>&#8217;. Dr. A.N. Jha was its first vice-chancellor. It was renamed as Sampurnanand Sanskrit University under the U.P. State University Act, 1973. The University has since been proceeding along the set path of the programme while trying to achieve its goal. The Sampurnanand Sanskrit University has a great history of about 205 years (including the Govt. Sanskrit College). In other words, the history of the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University includes history of the Sanskrit Education itself. The guidelines set by the glorious past of the Govt. Sanskrit College Benares has been the focus of the university.</p>
<p>The history of the Govt. Sanskrit College goes back to the last quarter of the eighteenth century. Under a proposal of Sri Jonathan Duncan, the Govt. Sanskrit College was established in 1791. Pt. Kashinath was its first teacher and Acharya. At that point of time, there was an arrangement for the teaching of subjects such as Vedas, Vedanta Purana, Ayurveda, Sahitya, Astrology, Theology, Mimamsa, Nyaya, etc. The college was conducted with the surplus revenue of the Benares State. At present the Sampurnanand University has a number of faculties and departments, dedicated to the study of various humanities and science disciplines.It was renamed as Sampurnanand Sanskrit University under the U.P. State University Act, 1973, w.e.f.16th Dec. 1974.This University was established as an international center of study, teaching and research in Sanskrit.<br />
Its main aim was:-</p>
<p>(a) To establish an international centre for the study of and research in the Sanskrit Literature,</p>
<p>(b) To co-ordinate the oriental and occidental currents of thoughts while preserving the ancient tradition,</p>
<p>(c) To provide for the traditional method of study, teaching etc. of the Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit languages and the subjects connected with them on the ancient lines</p>
<p>(d) With a view properly to evaluate the Indian culture to gather full knowledge of the literature in Sanskrit, the basis of Indian culture and other old and new languages of Asia related thereto, which have taken therefrom words either in original or equivalents form,</p>
<p>(e) To study and do researches in the comparative critical study of Indian culture as well as the cultures connected therewith so that it may be co-orfinated, as far as possible, with the human culture,</p>
<p>(f) To produce new and talented scholars who are well versed in the knowledge of traditional Sanskrit and who are fully acquainted with modern thoughts, and are capable of carrying on comparative study on modern lines,</p>
<p>(g) To expand, spread and enlarge the Sanskrit language and the Indian culture in all directions,</p>
<p>(h) And to collect and publish rare Sanskrit books and to revise, edit and publish important Sanskrit manuscripts. </p>
<p>The University has since been proceeding along the set path of the programme while trying to achieve its goal. If its former shape &#8220;Govt. sanskrit College&#8221; is included it has an excellent history of about 205 years.</p>
