This ancient and busiest ghat affords a splendid view of the river front. Legends suggest that Lord Brahma, the creator performed the ten -horses sacrifice (dasa-asvamedha) at this site to pave way for Shiva’s return to Varanasi after a spell of banishment. The temple of Sulatankesvara, Brahmesvara, Varahesvara, Abhaya Vinayaka, the Ganga, and Bands Devi are nearby at the top of the ghat. These shrines are linked to several important pilgrimage journeys.
