It is believed that saint Tulsidas built a Hanuman Temple here and the ghat came to be known as Hanuman Ghat. Earlier it was called as Ramesvaram Ghat and is said to be established by Lord Ram himself. At present it is inside the boundary of Jima Akhara. A new temple has been built by the ghat s large south Indian community.
